sustainability

fit BERNAL fit is San Francisco’s first and only green fitness center,  certified by the San Francisco Green Business Program. Our environmental mission is to inspire the local community to become more environmentally conscious by focusing on conservation, waste diversion and education. fBf strives towards sustainability and makes decisions based on the best wellness options available for good health and the environment. fBf aspires to minimize waste in our landfill bins and enhance eco-responsibility within our community by educating people about sustainable actions within their control.

fBf’s Steps Towards Sustainability:

  • fBf was designed with more than 50% of reclaimed and recycled building materials including recycled rubber flooring,  reclaimed bathroom tiles, mirrors and accessories.
  • fBf reduces electricity consumption by empowering members to adjust the fans and lights when not in use.
  • fBf composts and recycles more than 90% of it’s consumed waste.
  • fBf offers filtered tap water in lieu of offering non-sustainable, costly bottled water.
  • fBf promotes the use of personal water-bottles to minimize the need for disposable cups.
  • fBf asks members to supply personal workout towels to eliminate excess water-waste from laundering single-use towels.
  • fBf has installed new plumbing and low-flow toilets to minimize water usage.
  • fBf uses non-toxic, natural gym wipes and cleaners, recycled paper products and natural hand sanitizers.
  • fBf’s location and business model promotes walking and biking to the gym instead of driving.
  • Seven out of our ten cardio machines are battery powered. We deploy energy efficient technology and appliances including  computers, lights, fans and cooling systems.
  • fBf is always evaluating green technology that harnesses human energy.
  • fBf serves organic dog treats and uses compostable dog waste bags.
  • fBf’s marketing materials use soy or vegetable dyes and are printed on recycled and tree-free materials.
  • fBf is a member of the Bernal Business Alliance and supports local, independent and like-minded green businesses.
